Oregon Duck recruiting: while Budda loses faith, Charles Nelson is on a mission

Last week Budda Baker decided Oregon wasn't a good fit for him, but speedy Florida athlete Charles Nelson might just find it a perfect match.

Nelson visits this weekend along with Idaho safety Khalil Oliver and defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao.

No, not that Charles Nelson…

The star running back/receiver/returner/defensive back from the Seabreeze Sandcrabs of Daytona Beach, Nelson tore his ACL in 2012 and missed most of his junior year. That set him back in the recruiting chase, for only for a while: in his superb senior campaign he had 50 catches for 766 yard and nine touchdowns, adding a 91-yard kickoff return and four interceptions. He averaged 48.6 yards a kick return and 15.3 yards a catch.

Just as quickly he garnered 18 scholarship offers, including Notre Dame, USC, West Virginia, the Ducks and Florida.

Nelson's just 5-9, 170 but plays bigger. He zooms into open spaces and has a deft stop/start move. A smooth, natural receiver with great hands, he transitions quickly and baffles tacklers, a threat to score on every touch. Devastating quick and decisive, he sports a 4.39 40 and a 10.5 100, with a 300-pound bench press and a 405-pound squat, tremendous pound-for-pound strength, indicative of an exceptional work ethic.

He had such a great time on his USC visit last week that he eliminated Florida, down to his top four on the eve of his visit to Eugene.
